This breakout adapter is designed to connect to a 4-line RJ45 jack, wired to the 568A standard (not for RJ61 wiring).
It provides four jacks that can be used for either one-line or two-line phones and accessories, such as modem, credit card terminal, answerer or fax machine. A pass-through connector, labeled "OUT" on the adapter, is provided to allow access to all four lines.
The adapter has six, eight-position RJ-45 voice grade jacks, labeled on the front.
Jack one is labeled "IN", jack two is labeled "OUT;" and the remaining four breakout jacks are labeled "L1,L2", "L2,L1", "L3,L4" and "L4,L3".
The first number of each pair is the primary line connected (center pair in an RJ11 or RJ14 jack). The second number is used only for a two-line phone, and indicates the secondary pair (outer pair in an RJ14 jack).
TO USE THE ADAPTER: 1. Plug one end of the provided patch cord into a jack on your wall that has dial tone. 2. Plug the other end of the patch cord into the connector labeled "IN" on the adapter. 3. Plug your phone and other equipment into the adapter.
EXAMPLE: If you want your two-line phone on lines one and two, your fax on line three, and your modem on line four, plug your phone into the L1,L2 connector (lines one and two), the fax into the L3,L4 connector (for line three), and the modem into the L4,L3 connector (for line four).
