Ortronics, founded in 1966 by Maurice "Mo" Orlando, started as a manufacturer of relay coils. Its first major customer was IBM, and in 1968, Ortronics began manufacturing for ITT.
Through the 1970s, Ortronics was strictly a connectorized cable, coils and pre-connected blocks assembler for the Bell operating companies. Their first non-cable product was the bridging adapter in the early 1980s. They later developed other connectors for the telephone companies, and in 1985 Ortronics entered the data market with patch panels and data adapters.
Ortronics is based in New London, CT, and in 1998 was purchased by Legrand of France, a major producer of wiring devices.
