By applying a tone signal to a wire pair or single conductor, and using an inductive amplifier probe, the tone generator helps you to identify that pair or conductor within a bundle, at a cross-connect point or at the remote end. The generator can be used on twisted pair wiring (telecom, datacom, control), single conductors, coax cables, de-energized AC wiring, etc. It provides four important functions: tone generation, continuity testing, talk battery supply and line polarity confirmation.

The tone generator has recently been updated, to provide line condition indication (presence of voltage, and polarity) on two pairs in a modular jack, so you can test two phone lines, or the voice and data pairs in a phone system.

The probe unit permits wire and cable identification without having to make direct metallic contact with the conductor. Powerful receiver gain permits accurate identification in even the most congested cable bundles and equipment rooms. Other features include a two-inch speaker which eliminates the need for buttsets or headsets, a unique blended carbon compound tip that reduces conductivity to minimize the risk of shorting terminals without sacrificing performance, and a recessed on/off push button control. It is supplied with a non-metallic and metal tips. The probe also has an adjustable volume control for more precise identification when tone signal "bleed" is affecting the identification process, and recessed tabs for buttset or headset connections.
